Description

The interaction of laser radiation and biological tissues can be characterized by 4 types of effects: electro-mechanical effect, photo-ablative effect, thermal effect and photo-chemical effect. An accurate handling of these effects through the use of adequate technologies has led to applications in medicine. 2 examples are given: the use of laser radiation to help skin healing and to treat prostate tumours.
