Gauge dependence of the ultraviolet behavior of perturbative QCD

Description

Details of calculations in an analysis of the gauge dependences of the two-loop renormalization-group approximation of QCD are given for several of the most widely used momentum-subtraction schemes. It is shown that in a number of commonly used cases the gauge dependence has a significant effect on the ultraviolet behavior of the effective coupling α(Q2) and, in particular, can lead to a loss of asymptotic freedom for α(Q2). Possible consequences of this phenomenon for physical quantities are discussed
