Isotopic assay of water by infrared absorption measurement

Description

An infrared absorption method is tested for the isotopic assay of H2O-D2O mixtures. The band around 1.66 μ leads to a 0.05% accuracy for D2O-rich mixtures (less than 5% of H2O). Accuracy is reduced for mixtures with a higher water concentration. Therefore, different fundamental frequencies and container thicknesses are have been tested to obtain the optimum accuracy for mixtures with different D2O concentrations.
