Description

A variety of targets have been prepared by vapor deposition using electron beam heating. Metal rolling in multicomponent sandwiches has permitted very thin foils of tin and cadmium to be prepared. Of significant importance was the preparation of multilayer plunger foils by mechanical combination of many individual thin carbon films supported between a stretched Ni-Pd foil and a Ni stopper. This paper describes the various methods used to prepare the above noted targets and the target preparation facilities at the Weizmann Institute of Science. (orig.)
