The gauge hierarchy problem

  • 1. Instituto de Fisica Teorica, Sao Paulo (Brazil)

Description

The problem of gauge hierarchy in grand unified theories is discussed using a toy model with O(N) symmetry to illustrate the statements. It is shown that there is no escape from the unnatural adjustment of coupling constants, made only after the computation to several orders in perturbation theory is performed. The proposals of some authors on ways to overcome the gauge hierarchy problem are discussed. (author)
