Effects of heavy irradiation damage on hydrogen diffusion in Zr alloy oxide layers

  • 1. Kyoto University, Department of Nuclear Engineering, Kyoto (Japan)

Description

Two types of oxide layers were formed on surface of zirconium alloys by high-temperature steam, that is, a barrier layer with low hydrogen diffusivity and a non-barrier layer with relatively high hydrogen diffusivity. Experimental results showed that thickness of the barrier layer was first increased by oxygen ion irradiation and decreased at higher irradiation dose, then again increased. These complicated behavior may be attributed to change in second phase particle (SPP). (author)
