Description
Methods for the determination of failure causes in industrial equipment are reviewed: visual examination, dimensioning, optical microscopy, scanning or transmission electron microscopy, replicas, electron or X-ray diffraction, Auger spectrometry. These techniques are illustrated by examples: An experimental model of sodium-water heat exchanger in alloy 800, a sodium-sodium heat exchanger in steel 316L, cracks in a sodium mixer for temperature equalization
