Radiation-induced decomposition of surfactants in aqueous solutions

Description

Experimental results on radiation-induced decomposition of surfactants (sulphonole and OP-10) in queous solution filtrated through columns filled with activated carbon (SAU, AQ-3, AG-5) under γ-irradiation of 60Co at dose rate of approximately 0.3 Gy/s are presented. Activated carbons preliminary have been saturated by surfactants and their volume have been determined. It is shown that SAU carbon volume according to sulphonole cnstitutes approximately 76 mg/sm3, for other carbons - approximately13 mg/sm3. Experiments have shown that after 6 hours since the beginning of irradiation, effective purification of carbons regenerates and preserves during approximately 60 days (irradiationdose is about approximately 1.5x106 Gy). At that aqueous solution purification takes place up to maximum permissible concentration <=0.5 Mg/l. It is found out that simultaneous irradiation and filtration using activated carbon of surfactant aqueous solutions give better results of purification in comparison with only sorption or only irradiation
