Description

This report is the summary of the symposium on beryllides as an advanced nuclear functional material. This symposium was held on March 17, 2003 at Marunouchi Building in Tokyo with 20 participants who attended from industry, university and JAERI in Japan. Beryllides as the advanced neutron multiplier were developed by JAERI for improvement of reactivity with steam, tritium inventory and swelling at high temperature and high neutron fluence. The objective of this symposium is to promote the study of beryllides through the discussion concerning the latest results. The main topics were the latest results of beryllide (Be12Ti), study on fabrication technology of beryllides and strategy for characterization of beryllides in Japan. The issues in these topics were discussed intensively. The effectiveness of beryllide as advanced nuclear functional material multiplier and the subject to be studied concerning the fabrication technology and characterization of beryllides became clear by the discussion in this symposium.
