Safety features of a reactor core with minor actinide transmutation and burning capabilities

  • 1. Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe, Institut fuer Kern-und Energietechnik, Projekt Nukleare Sicherheitsforschung, Postfach 3640 D-76021 Karlsruhe (Germany)

Description

An annular high leakage core dedicated to transmute and incinerate Minor Actinides is investigated for its safety potential. Improvements of the safety potential are investigated and proposed which concern the coolant void worth and the Doppler coefficient, but also the core behavior under core disruptive accident conditions. The basic capability of the core to burn Minor Actinides is additionally demonstrated
