Radiogeochemical Investigations of Soil and Groundwater in the Eastern Region of Lithuania

From the radiogeochemical point of view and according to 90Sr and 137Cs concentrations in ground and groundwaters the Ignalina NPP territory does not differ or differs little from the other studied territories of Lithuania. The 'corrosive' radionuclides (54Mn, 60Co), characteristic only for nuclear power plants, get into the ground and groundwaters on the territory of the Ignalina NPP; these radionuclides accumulate on a larger scale in the mud quarry. The fact that 137 Cs is established in the waters of all studied territories shows, that from the percental point of view, a little proportion of radionuclides in water-soluble and exchangeable forms and, during intensive rains, also in the 'fixedform, migrate together with waters. A variety of radionuclide migration processes is stipulated by these circumstances. (author). 5 refs., 3 figs., 3 tabs
