Radioactivity release from the Chernobyl-4 reactor accident
Description
The Soviet estimate of the total amount of radioactivities released from the Chernobyl-4 reactor accident has been examined. In order to solve many questions involved in it, a number of data from Europe have been analyzed together with Soviet data, and a new assessment is presented. The analysis was made by investigating the x-dependence of the ratios of various radionuclides to 137Cs. The total amount of radioactivities deposited on 3000-km zone around Chernobyl has been estimated to be about 4.1 x 1018 Bq (decay-corrected to May 6, 1986), which is more than twice as high as the Soviet estimate of the total releases of non-gas radioactivities, 1.85 x 1018 Bq.
