Application of bone and bone-marrow scintigraphy for visualizing skeletal metastases

  • 1. Meditsinska Akademiya, Sofia (Bulgaria). Nauchen Inst. po Rentgenologiya i Radiobiologiya

Description

The diagnostic value of the consecutive application of bone and bone-marrow scintigraphy in the diagnosis of the skeletal metastases is studied. The method cosists in initial bone scintigraphy with 99mTc diphosphonate, and after 2-7 days - bone-marrow scintigraphy with 99mTc-disulphocolloid (or 99mTc-nanocol). It is shown that this two-step examination increases the specificity and accuracy of detecting skeletal metastases and avoids the false positive findings of skeletal scintigraphy. 2 figs., 3 refs
