Relation between the TL ages of loess deposited on terraces and palaeoclimatic evolution along Aerjin Fault

Description

There are multistage terraces with different height along Aerjin Fault developed on the numerous rivers which flow out from Aerjin Mountain. On the terraces, there is loess with different thickness deposited. The TL ages of the loess show that the loess covered on the terraces with different height is deposit since last glacial-stage in a period of great prosperity, that is, after 16kaBP, and can be divided in to four deposit periods roughly: 15 - 16kaBP , 10 - 13kaBP , 6 - 7kaBP and 3 - 4kaBP. It is well known, that loess is a sort of powder dust sediment formed in dry climate environment. So above results indicate that area along the Aerjin Fault has been in dry climate environment all the way since last glacial-stage in a period of great prosperity. The division of deposited periods of loess also reveals that there is a climate fluctuation for a short duration under the continued dry climate environment. This result is consistent with the study by predecessors about the evolution of salt lake in Chaidamu Basin and the Northern Tibet and the development of Qinghai Lake
