Induced chromosomal aberrations in man

Methods used to study chromosomes in human cells are discussed with emphasis on the use of cultured cells to study aberrations induced in vivo and in vitro by exposure to drugs, viruses, chemical mutagens, or ionizing radiations. Data are reviewed from a number of studies on chromosomal aberrations in cultured lymphocytes from individuals exposed internally or externally to various doses of ionizing radiations. The relationship between radiation dose and the induction of chromosomal aberrations is discussed. Data are included on chromosomal aberrations in A-bomb survivors of Hiroshima and Nagasaki exposed to high doses of acute irradiation and the subsequent incidence of neoplasms. (U.S.)
