Electricity production: Half speed ahead

Description
While the consumption of primary energy in Germany has trebled since 1950, the consumption of electricity has increased eight times. As far as the future is concerned, however, now even the reputable institutes concerned with the energy industry reckon with a fairly modest growth. The article discusses these forecasts, the effects of building power stations on employment policies, the part played by the price of electricity in international competition in industry and the safety of coal-powered and nuclear power stations. Abstract (German)
Waehrend isch der Primaerenergieverbrauch in unserem Land seit 1950 verdreifacht hat, ist der Stromverbrauch auf das Achtfache angewachsen. Fuer die Zukunft gehen allerdings inzwischen auch die namhaften energiewirtschaftlichen Institute von einem eher bescheidenen Wachstum aus. Diese Prognosen sowie die beschaeftigungspolitische Wirkung des Kraftwerkbaus, die Rolle des Strompreises im internationalen Wettbewerb der Industrie sowie die Sicherheit von Steinkohle- und Kernkraftwerken werden diskutiert.
