Studies on the iodine supply of the inhabitants living around the Paks Nuclear Power Plant by determining the iodine concentration of thyroid gland and urine

Description
To make a general survey about the iodine supply of the inhabitants living in the vicinity of the Paks Nuclear Power Plant, the iodine concentration of the thyroid gland of deceased persons was determined by means of x-ray fluorescence spectroscopy and neutron activation analysis, and the iodine content of urine was measured using ion selective electrodes. Significant differences in the iodine supply of the inhabitants of Paks and its neighbourhood compared to the control group could not be detected, though the consumption of iodine containing salt was suggested to increase the measured low values, i.e. 347-457 μg I-/g wet tissue and 56-90 μg I-/l urine, respectively.
