Description
Uranium spot market price are near their lowest levels since 1974 at about $15/lb. The Beisa uranium/gold mine was forced to close down and uranium production at Krugersdorp is stopped. Uranium is produced as a by-product of gold extraction and South Africa is the second-lowest cost producer of uranium in the world. The Chemwes plant produced 270 tons of uranium oxide during 1985 and made taxed profits of R26 m. Buffelsfontein produce 720 tons of uranium per year
