Waste processing for standardized Russian PWR reactors

The Russian program for new nuclear power plants (until 2020 about 20 GWe) was signed in 2010 by the Russian President. Atomenergoproject was assigned to elaborate the optimization of the radioactive waste from VVER-1000 reactors for final disposal. NUKEM Technologies was assigned to elaborate the planning of the waste processing within the standardized project. The project includes concepts of different treatment methods for different waste forms, optimized sorting of the waste at the location of waste generation, and an extended waste avoidance program. The complete waste processing will be documented in detail.
