Absorption in the far red by I2- and Br2-
Description
The species Br2- in aqueous solution shows absorption in the red with lambda sub(max) = 730 nm and xi = 340 dm3mol-1cm-1 compared with analogue I2- absorption lambda sub(max) = 725 nm and xi = 4.2 x 103dm3mol-1cm-1. No far red absorption by Cl2- or (CNS)2- was observed. (author)
