Kinetic modulational instability of electron cyclotron waves in plasmas

  • 1. Bochum Univ. (Germany, F.R.)

Description

The modulation of a large amplitude electron cyclotron wave by non-resonant ion quasi-modes is considered. The growth rate of the kinetic modulational instability is derived. Our results can have relevance to the magnetic fusion as well as to space plasmas with equal electron and ion temperatures. (author). 7 refs
