Design and application of radiation absorbed dose calculations for 153Sm-EDTMP therapy to painful bone metastases
- 1. Shanghai Medical Univ. (China). Zhongshan Hospital
Description
The authors designed a programme to analyse radiation absorbed dose. Samarium-153-ethylenediaminetetra-methylinephosphonic acid (153Sm-EDTMP) was administered to 17 patients as a clinical therapy to palliate painful osseous metastases. SmDOSE programme was compiled with C language, and dosimetry calculation was based on pharmacokinetic studies. The skeletal activity was 1044.14 +- 243.83 MBq·h-1 and the cumulated skeletal activity was 67314.84 +- 16325.14 kBq·h-1. Radiation absorbed dose of red marrow from the therapeutical activity was 213.77 +-55.82 cGy, lower than the nominated maximum red marrow dose (285 cGy). SmDOSE programme is rather effective for dosimetric calculation and be sued to study the dose, efficacy and toxicity of 153Sm-EDTMP
