''Hybrid'' start-up scenario in the OTR-reactor and quenching of fusion reaction

Description

At present it seems to be expedient to consider a ''hybrid'' start-up scenario when the lower-hybrid waves are applied together with the inductive current excitation. The purpose of this consideration is the direct saving of the induced magnetic flux to make the burn stage longer. Scenarios of an initial stage of discharge and a stage of fusion quenching for OTR are described in the paper. The calculations based on modern theory and experiments have shown that one should have the lower-hybrid power 20 MW to perform the ''hybrid'' process. It is also shown that there are considerable limitations to the current ramp-up time, which is about 50-60 s for the plasma column with fixed plasma cross-section. The procedure of shaping the transversal cross-section of the plasma column which allows to reduce that limited time to 20-30 s is described in the paper. It is also shown that the application of auxiliary heating allows to organize a quasi-stationary quenching of fusion. (author). 3 refs, 3 figs
