Description

Modification of fatty acid composition can improve the keeping quality of groundnut oil and may expand markets for its usage. Gamma ray based mutagenesis induced 69 groundnut mutants for different traits. Fatty acid profile among the mutants indicated that an increase in palmitic acid for 10 mutants, in stearic and oleic acid for 7 mutants and decrease in linoleic acid for 7 mutants as compared to parent. Such mutants would be ideal genetic material for future breeding programmes in groundnut. (author)
