Spin trap method. Identification of short-lived radicals in γ-irradiated ethylene glycol
Description
The radical products of γ-radiolysis of ethyleneglycol have been studied with the aid of tert-nitrosobutane (TNB) as a spin trap. Adducts of TNB with HOCH2CHOH radicals have been detected upon irradiation both in a liquid (0 deg) and solid phase (-196 deg). Upon irradiation in a liquid phase the TNB adduct with CH2OH radical has been observed. If the solutions of TNB in ethyleneglycol irradiated at -196 deg C are fastly defrosted, the adducts with CH2CHO radicals are found in the EPR spectrum
