Application of failure tree analysis to evaluating the reliability of a safeguard system of pressurized water nuclear power plant

Description

Event tree and failure tree analyses were used to calculate the reliability of a reactor safeguard system. Diagrams and information data on system operation were used to lay out an event tree and a failure tree in succession. The latter was then quantized using numerical data on materials failure rates. Critical paths were extracted from the failure tree after numerical calculation have been done. Weak points as regard to reliability were thus emphasized

Abstract (French)

On a utilise la construction d'arbres d'evenements et d'arbres de defaillance pour evaluer la fiabilite d'un systeme de sauvegarde de reacteur. A l'aide des schemas et renseignements sur le fonctionnement on a trace successivement un arbre d'evenements puis un arbre de defaillance. Le second a ensuite ete quantifie a l'aide de donnees numeriques sur les taux de defaillances des materiels. Les chemins critiques ont ete extraits de l'arbre de defaillance une fois l'evaluation numerique faite. Les points faibles vis-a-vis de la fiabilite ont ainsi ete mis en evidence
