Niobium carbide deposition on the iron and steel surface

  • 1. Kievskij Politekhnicheskij Inst. (Ukrainian SSR)

Description

Studied has been the possibility of the niobium carbide coatings' settling out on the armco iron and carbon steel surface at reduced pressures in the medium of the dissociated carbon tetrachloride. Studied has been the dependence of the carbide layer thickness on the temperature and the hold-time of the process. The mentioned carbide layer has been produced during the saturation of the researched alloys. The phase composition of the carbide coatings has been established. The distribution of the hardness along the diffusion layer's cross-section and the influence of the carbide coating application on the durabilities of the steels have been shown. On the basis of the obtained data the optimum regime of the niobium carbide application on the steel surfaces has been determined: the process temperature - 1050 deg C, the hold-time - 2 hrs
