Development and research of LWR and its technology for the new century

  • 1. Tokyo Univ., Tokai, Ibaraki (Japan). Nuclear Engineering Research Lab.

Description

R and D of nuclear reactors of the next generation is carried out in order to meet a rapid increase of electric power demand in the world. LWR is considered to maintain the mainstream of nuclear power generation in the next century. The present status of the development and research of LWR and its technology are overviewed, which includes advanced BWR (ABWR), simplified BWR (JSBWR), elementary techniques (reactor core, fuel and primary systems and equipments), PWR of the next generation, simplified PWR (Advanced Passive 600), ROSA-AP 600 experiment, JAERI Passive Safety Reactor (JPSR), PIUS reactor concept proposed in Sweden, supercritical pressure LWR (SCLWR, thermal neutron reactor), SCLWR-cooled fast breeder reactor (SCFBR), and MRX (advanced Marine Reactor X). Abstract (Japanese)
