Contribution to study and realization of 20-Tesla superconducting magnet

This work is mainly concerned with 20 Tesla induction production study. This magnetic induction should be produced by associating a series of coils using high critical field commercial: superconductors to the 10 Tesla magnet (diameter: 300; let's call it 10-300 magnet). The operation temperature lowering from 4,20 K to 1,80 K should effectively lead to much higher inductions (with equal effective diameter) than the greatest performances nowadays realized at 4,20K temperature. To this performance augmentation is associated a more important energy density augmentation. This leads to the necessity of the knowledge of the superconducting material physical properties. They are studied in this report. Following, different methodes of magnet calculations are described: problems related to mechanical constraints, protection and stability must be known. Finally, some coils of the 10-300 magnet are presented together with their realization

Ce travail a consiste principalement a etudier les conditions dans lesquelles il serait possible de produire une induction de 20 Tesla. Cette induction magnetique devrait etre produire en associant a l'aimant 10 Tesla diametre 300 une serie de bobinages utilisant differents supraconducteurs commerciaux a hauts champs critiques. L'abaissement de la temperature de fonctionnement du systeme de 4,2 a 1,8 K devrait effectivement conduire a l'obtention d'inductions magnetiques nettement plus importantes (a diametre utile egal) que les performances maximales actuellement realisees a la temperature de 4,2 K. A cet accroissement de performances est associee une augmentation importante de la densite d'energie par unite de masse. Certaines proprietes physiques des materiaux supraconducteurs (courant critique a 1,8 K, comportement mecanique, ...) sont etudiees dans ce memoire. Differentes methodes de calcul de l'aimant sont decrites: il est en effet indispensable que les problemes relatifs aux contraintes mecaniques, a la protection et a la stabilite soient bien resolus.
