Behavior of the cerium and its alloys for spheroidal graphite cast iron

  • 1. Castings Research Lab., Waseda Univ., Tokyo

Description

Usually magnesium, cerium mischmetal and their alloys are used for producing the sphroidal graphite cast iron as graphite spherodizer. Recently many kinds of cerium contained alloys are produced in China. Among these alloys, Fe-Si-Re and Fe-Si-Mg-Re alloys are widely used. This paper compares the graphite spherodizing ability, behavior of the oxygen in melted iron, distribution of the inclusion in the matrix and the nucleus of spheroidal graphite when Fe-Si-Re, Fe-Si-Mg, and Fe-Si-Mg-Re alloys are used as the graphite spherodizer
