Description

Swelling of the neutron absorption materials, used in control rods, may cause stress corrosion and cracks in the cladding materials. The present invention concerns the design of the rod shaped absorbers. Ridges on the rod surface (a polygonal transverse section) will form a distance between the rod and cladding. During the swelling the absorber materials will expand into this space. (K.A.E.)
