Evaluation of the RAW minimization project at SE, a.s. for the period 2007-2022, milestones and challenges

  • 1. Slovenske elektrarne, a. s., 82109 Bratislava (Slovakia)

Description

The objective of radioactive waste minimization at Slovenske Elektrarne, Inc. is to operate nuclear power plants so that the amount and activity of radioactive waste generated is as low as reasonably achievable (ALARA). Reduction is achieved through technical and organisational measures. All these measures have been included in SE, Inc. since 2007 in a long-term minimisation project through specific IPR investment projects. The minimisation project was evaluated both technically and financially in two phases: 2007-2012, 2012-present. During implementation, the individual IPRs were continuously reviewed, re-evaluated, or modified based on experience from another site. As a result of the whole minimisation project, the radioactive waste generated and the financial provision for its treatment and disposal have been significantly reduced. The long-term generation summaries clearly confirm this.
