Spectrophotometric determination of trace thorium with DBN-arsenazo

  • 1. Academia Sinica, Shanghai, SH (China). Shanghai Inst. of Nuclear Research

Description

The application of DBN-arsenazo in determination of trace thorium was described. In aqueous solution, the thorium DBN-arsenazo complex exhibited maximum absorbance at 630 nm. Molar absorptivity in 1 mol/L HCl was calculated (εmax = 8.6 x 104 L · cm-1). The uranium interference can be tolerated even if its intensity is 90 times higher than thorium itself . Beer's law is obeyed in the concentration range of 0-13 μg Th/10 ml with correlation coefficient r = 0.9991. In 30% TBP-kerosene solution, trace thorium can be directly determined by DBN-arsenazo complex exhibited maximum absorbance at 620 nm in the inter soluble system. Molar absorptivity was calculated (εmax 4.9 x 104 L · mol-1 · cm-1). Beer's law is obeyed in the concentration range of 0-14 μg Th/10 ml
