Numerical study of some energy recuperation methods in injectors of neutral beam

Description

In order to produce neutral beams for fusion plasmas efficiently, the energy contained in the unneutralized fraction of the beam coming from the ion source, has to be recovered. Several recovery systems using electrostatic deceleration are proposed. To prevent heating damages, the presence of obstacles on the neutral beam trajectories had to be reduced to a minimum. A computer code permitted to determine the importance of geometrical factors and space charge effects in designing the optimum configuration

Abstract (French)

Les faisceaux de neutres a haute energie, utilises pour le chauffage des plasmas de fusion, ne peuvent etre produits efficacement que si l'on recupere l'energie contenue dans la fraction non neutralisee du faisceau provenant de la source d'ions. Differents moyens sont proposes pour obtenir cette recuperation par deceleration electrostatique. On a cherche a resoudre le probleme en reduisant au maximum la presence d'obstacles materiels sur le trajet des particules neutres de facon a restreindre les problemes d'echauffement. Un code numerique a pu etre utilise, ce qui a permis de voir l'importance de la geometrie et des champs de charge d'espace pour l'obtention de la configuration optimum
