Description
These include gamma projectors, teletherapy heads and various industrial gauges, including density gauges. The users manage and store the sources/DU shielding on a temporary basis before sending them to a CSF. Malaysia has a national storage facility (including DU material) located at the site of the Malaysian Nuclear Agency — Nuclear Malaysia located near Bangi, Selangor. The gauges and containers (containing DU shielding) are managed in the same manner as all of the other radioactive waste, in accordance with the Radiation Protection (Radioactive Waste Management) Regulation 2011. There are no specific security regulations. The Malaysian Nuclear Regulator (AELB) exercises control and oversight over the production, application and usage of radioactive materials and nuclear technology. The requirements from AELB are that: — Users of radioactive materials are responsible for the waste; — Users are required to be registered and licensed by AELB; — DSRSs and DU shielding material is appropriately stored or returned to supplier; — Users without infrastructure and expertise can request third party organization for services that are licensed/recognized by AELB. The licence holders are responsible for the safety and physical protection of the radioactive waste, including DU materials.
