Radiation dosimetry by neutron or X ray fluorescence activation of residual silver in ionographic emulsions

Description

A global measuring technique which is sensitive enough to detect small silver contents in films for dosimetry applications is presented. The applications studied are neutron dosimetry by measuring residual silver due to recoil protons in developed emulsions and high dose dosimetry by the detection of photolytic silver in fixed emulsions. An individual fast neutron dosimeter which can be used in radiation protection was developed, along with an automatic data analysis and readout system. Application of this technique to the measurement of high radiation doses (100 to 1 million Gy) via the measurement of photolytic silver in fixed, but undeveloped, emulsions confirms the usefulness of the method

Abstract (French)

Une technique de mesure globale suffisamment sensible pour la detection de faibles teneurs en argent des films en vue des applications en dosimetrie est presentee. Les applications etudiees sont la dosimetrie des neutrons par la mesure dans les emulsions developpees de l'argent residuel du aux protons de recul et la dosimetrie des fortes doses par la detection de l'argent photolytique dans les emulsions fixees. On a elabore un dosimetre individuel de neutrons rapides utilisable en radioprotection et lie a un systeme automatique de lecture. L'application de cette technique a la dosimetrie des fortes doses de rayonnement (100 a 1 million Gy) par la mesure de l'argent photolytique dans des emulsions non developpees mais fixees confirme l'utilite de la methode
