High energy primary iron observed with plastic emulsion chamber

  • 1. Utsunomiya Univ. (Japan). Faculty of Education

Description

Relativistic cosmic havy nuclei were detected in a chamber composed of a pile of solid track detector (CR-39) and the nuclear emulsion plates. The chambers were exposed by balloon flights at SANRIKU BALLOON CENTER. The integral flux of cosmic Fe-nuclei at the top of atmosphers is estimated to be I (> = 4.0 GeV/n) = (1.35 +- 0.12) x 10-1 (m2.str.sec)-1. The measuring system which was developed for the analysis of CR-39 is also presented. (author)
