The informative significance of seawater Cherenkov self-irradiance for deep-sea animals

Description

Quantum efficiency of an eye of deep-sea animals is estimated as applied to the Cherenkov photon flux falling on a pupil. Eyes of deep-sea fishes are noted to be an ideal photon counter as a result of transparence of an eye lens for ultraviolet. It is outlined that the presence of some flux of ultraviolet light of the Cherenkov origin in the ocean depths and the marked sensitivity of the eye of deep-sea fishes is not occasional concidence of independent phenomena. It is supposed that the eye of deep-sea animals adapt itself for the seawater self-luminescence - for a constant factor of the deep-sea world during evolution
