Phyllodes tumors of breast: magnetic resonance imaging findings and differential diagnosis

  • 1. Department of Radiology, Xinhua Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, Shanghai (China)

Description

Phyllodes tumors (PTs) are uncommon fibroepithelial tumors of breast and are capable of a diverse range of biological behaviors. Clinically and radiologically PTs may manifest as fibroadenomas, or demarked carcinoma and sarcoma. However, the treatments and outcomes are quite different. Conventional radiological methods play a limited role in diagnosis, while dynamic enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and functional MRI can provide specific information, and are useful in pre-surgical diagnosis and localization for biopsy. In this article we reviewed PT in clinical features, pathological findings, MRI features and differential diagnosis. (authors)
