Description
Retropharyngeal hematomas (RPH) are relatively rare. They are clinicallyimportant because of the close proximity to the upper airway, which can belife threatening and requires immediate intervention. We report one patientwho presented with RPH due to anticoagulation that resulted in airwayobstruction and subsequent intubations. We outline the normal anatomy of theretropharyngeal space, the pathogenesis and treatment of RPH, with relatedliterature review. (author)
