Ir-192 high dose rate interstitial brachytherapy for recurrent breast cancer

Description
Eight patients with recurrent breast cancer were treated with Ir-192 high dose rate interstitial brachytherapy. Seven of eight were loco-regional chest wall recurrence and one was axillary lymph node metastasis. Interstitial brachytherapy doses at the point 5 mm from the applicator plane were from 5 to 20 Gy. Seven of eight were treated after external beam irradiation of 40-62 Gy. Treatment time was once or twice. Local control rate was 87.5%. No serious side effects were observed. It was considered Ir-192 high dose rate interstitial brachytherapy is effective for palliation of recurrent breast cancer patients. (author)
