Metallothermal reduction of alkali metal tetrafluoroborates

Description

Reactions of metallothermal reduction of alkali metal tetrafluoroborates are studied. It is stated that there is no noticeable reaction between the molten zinc and sodium or potassium tetrafluoroborates, while sodium reacts vigorously. Alkali metal tetrafluoroborates violently react with magnesium and calcium. KBF4 interaction with silicon results in K2SiF6, BF3, B, SiF4 formation, with aluminium - in KAlF4 and B, with calcium carbide - in KCaF3, C, B, BF3, aluminium and sodium tetrafluoroborate interaction results in production of NaF, Na3AlF6, B, BF3
