Measurement of the W boson mass with the ATLAS detector

Description

A measurement of the W-boson mass is presented based on 4.6 fb-1 of proton-proton collision data recorded in 2011 at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV with the ATLAS detector at the LHC. The selected data sample consists of 7.8 x 106 candidates in the W → μν channel and 5.9 x 106 candidates in the W → eν channel. The W-boson mass is determined using template-fits to the reconstructed distributions of the transverse momentum of the charged leptons and the transverse mass of the W bosons in the electron and muon decay channels. The dominant experimental systematic uncertainties are discussed, as well as those due to the modelling of the vector boson production and decay.
