Nuclear resonance fluorescence in 146Nd and 154Sm

  • 1. Israel Atomic Energy Commission, Beersheba. Nuclear Research Center-Negev

Description

The γ-rays obtained from the V(n,γ) reaction using thermal neutrons were employed to photo-excite levels in 146Nd and 154Sm. Angular distribution and polarization measurements were carried out and the following spins and parities were determined. In 146Nd (keV, Jsup(π)): 454, 2; 1778, 2; 7163, 1-. In 154Sm: 82, 2; 921, 1; 1099, 0; 1178, 2; 1202 (0); 6465, 1-. By combining the data obtained in the present work with that reported in the literature the following spins in 154Sm were assigned: 1440, 2; 1756, 2; 1922, 2; 1986, 2. The M2/E1 mixing ratio for one primary transition in 154Sm was measured. The widths of the resonance levels were determined to be: in 146Nd, GAMMA(7163 keV) = 125+-50 meV and in 154Sm, GAMMA(6465 keV) = 105+-50 meV. (Auth.)
