Description

The properties of dwarf compact galaxies are reviewed. Emphasis is given on dwarfs that are undergoing strong bursts of star formation. Recent results on their morphological properties, their stellar population and their molecular gas content are described. A comparison with the properties of very luminous Lα galaxies and radiogalaxies at large redshift is made in the context of galaxy formation and the existence of young galaxies still forming at present epoch. Their large-scale distribution is compared with that of brighter galaxies. (author)
