Supplementary report on nuclear power plants and public health

Description

This report has been produced by a Dutch Nuclear Energy Commentary Commission and supplements a Dutch report from September 1975 entitled: ''Kerncentrales en Volksgezondheid'' (Nuclear Power Plants and Public Health) (referred to as KEV). There is an introductory chapter in which the main conclusions of the KEV report are quoted and compared with some foreign reports dealing with the effect of nuclear energy on public health and the environment. In Chapter 2, the Commission discusses to what extent the definitive version of the ''Rasmussen report'' (WASH-1400 F) contains modifications or additions which would necessitate the KEV being either revised or supplemented. In Chapter 3 the views on reactor accidents presented in two ''Boerderij'' reports, namely report 7502 ''Kernenergie in discussie'' (Nuclear energy under discussion) and report 7601 ''Kleine kansen - grote gevolgen'' (Minor risks - major consequences), are discussed with emphasis on the criticism that both reports level against the KEV report. In Chapter 4 the Commission answers the criticism levelled against Chapter 4 of the KEV report: ''Guidelines and standards for limiting the radiation dose'', Chapter 5: ''The effect of normal operation of the nuclear fuel cycle on public health and the environment'', and Chapter 7: ''International aspects of the production of nuclear energy''.
