A study on minor actinide transmutation in light water reactors

  • 2. Nuclear Fuel Industries Ltd., Osaka (Japan)

Description

A wide range feasibility study is presented on PWR fuels with high TRU concentrations extending from the most extreme case investigating a TRU transmutation fuel (TRU fuel) only consisting of TRU oxide, to a more realistic case investigating an actinide recycle PWR MOX fuel (A.R. fuel) with lower MA concentrations. Even in the most extreme case investigating a TRU fuel, it was found to be possible to transmute MA while securing core safety. As for the A.R. fuel, it is supposed to be possible to realize a super high burnup fuel. (author)
