Patient dose in CT and recommendations for reduction
Description
This article presents a summary of the results from a survey by the NRPB of computerized tomography (CT) practice in 1989. It was established that there were 200 scanners in use and CT procedures were estimated to represent about 2% of the annual total of all x-ray examinations, yet they accounted for approximately 20% of the resultant collective dose. Information for 1993 suggests a total of over 300 scanners and a possible contribution to collective dose of over 30%. Accordingly recommendations by the NRPB for dose reduction in CT are presented.
