Description
ZnxFe3xO4 Ferrite samples were prepared by the usual ceramic method(x = 0,0.2, 0.4, 0.0, 0.8) IR spectra were carried out for gamma irradiated and unirradiated samples. It was observed that the ob sorption bands for all compositions were shifted to lower frequency after gamma irradiation. The increase of thermoelectric power and diffusion coefficient of the irradiated samples were ascribed to the movement of Fe3+ ions from tetrahedral sites a as a ferrous ions (Fe2+) at octahedral sites. This increased the hopping conduction between Fe2+ and Fe3+ ions leading to enhancing the diffusion of electrons and thermoelectric power. These compositions could be used as a sensor for detecting nuclear pollutions.(authors)
