Description
A case of high metabolic uptake at the thymic region seen on a whole body PET-CT in a young patient with Hodgkin lymphoma 9 months after treatment with BEACOPP, DHAP and two stem cell infusions. High thymic 18F-FDG uptake is difficult to assess in pediatric patients and young adults. High uptake in that region may represent physiologic activity but also hyperplasia of the thymus, lymphomatous infiltration, neoplasm or metastatic disease. Knowledge of different 18F-FDG uptake patterns in these conditions is important for PET-CT interpretation of the mediastinal region. (authors)
